COMMUNITY leaders in Gunbalanya have called on the parents of “out of control” teenagers to rein them in after a recent spate of youth crime in the region.
In a video posted to Facebook, a man who identifies himself as a member of the school board and housing committee addresses the youths directly via a public address system.
He says “the whole community it upset” after “everything’s been broken into”.
“The main responsibility lies on parents, we need to see every parent here today to discuss this matter” he says.

“You mob don’t even listen to you mob parents, your parents are the important people in your lives, elders are the important people.”
The man says he has lived in the community his whole life and “such behaviour wasn’t tolerated years ago”.
“You mob make me shame, I’m a black man sitting here talking and you’re blackfellas too, blackfellas should know, we’ve got law, we’ve got restrictions, same as balanda, respect it please,” he says.
“What if somebody came and break into your house, how would you feel? You have no right to go in there and take things or break things.”
The man says the responsibility to keep unruly kids in line lies with their parents and urges the kids to listen to their elders.

“They’re out of control, when you see stupidity like this it means they’re not controlled,” he said.
“Your parents, they are your parents, mother and father or uncle or grandparents, when they tell you about what is wrong and right you listen to them.
“You gotta be not hard but if you love your child start teaching him the right way, this mob could be our next generation.”
