The Jabiru Bombers marked a milestone weekend for two of their greats in their first ever club home game played under lights at Brockman Oval.
Mickitja Onus became the first ever player to achieve 300 games for the club while Richard Lindner ran out for his 200th when the pair ran out in the Division 2 against Tracy Village.
The two beloved players got to run out for their side in the club’s new Indigenous strip designed by Gunditjmara artist and former Bomber, Tylah Saunders.
Onus first played for Jabiru in the 2001-02 season and went on to captain the club in 18 seasons while coaching for three.
As a captain he led the side to two premierships and was a proud man when the Division 1 side became the first from Jabiru to win a premiership since joining the NTFL last season.
He credited the support of his family for allowing him to play for the club for so long with his other achievements including becoming a club life member in 2018.
“Without the support of my partner Karlee and my son Micka Jnr this wouldn’t have been possible,” he said.
“There are many great footballers in our family who shaped my knowledge of the game - football is in our blood. My junior coaches still influence me to this day.”
Meanwhile, the Kakadu born and bred Lindner has given his life playing for the side first making his debut as a 14-year-old in 2005-06 when the Bombers were short on players.
He has since been a five time Bombers captain, a league best and fairest in 2007-08 and a two-time premiership player prior to the club’s move to the NTFL.
Beyond being on field he has also coached the Jabiru women to two grand finals and is seen as someone that lifts the entire club.
“I was playing footy in Darwin and was sitting on the sidelines when Bombers were short on the day and they asked if I had boots and I said yeah,” he said on his first game.
“My old man, cousins and brothers have all played for the club so this was always a real family club for me.”
Meanwhile, to add to the special occasion for the Bombers, their home ground had lights on for the first time.
Jabiru were able to mark the occasion with a strong 15.10 (100) to 6.4 (40) win against the Razorbacks with both milestone men scoring goals.
