Four Territorians have become millionaires overnight in 2024 thanks to Lotto and Keno wins, according to figures released by the wagering companies.

Another two Territorians scored some big bucks, winning nearly $500,000 each in division one prizes.

While some of the big winners purchased their lottery tickets online, there were a couple of lucky hotspots around the Northern Territory in 2024, including the Hibiscus Tavern, Leanyer Newsagency, and the Howard Springs Tavern.

On March 2, one lucky person popped into the Leanyer Newsagency to check their numbers and went home with $400,641.05.

Newsagency owner Jason Barling said it was a really special moment that few people got to share when someone finds out they’ve won such a large share of money.

“The Northern Territory has a small population and obviously it’s a numbers game, but overall we [the NT] get quite a few winners,” he said.

“For the business it’s great, and also for the person selling it, it’s special to be a part of sharing in a memory.

“Sharing that special moment, and we are sometimes lucky enough to participate in that.”

Mr Barling said in the week leading up to Christmas, another two Territorians made it close to a big division one win, but still took home a nice Christmas present via a division two success.

Across the NT, the largest sum won in 2024 was a Set for Life lottery winner, who pocketed a life-changing $4,800,000 (spread over the course of 20 years).

The Lott spokesman Matt Hart said hundreds of Aussies across the country had experienced the indescribable thrill of a division one win in 2024.

“While we saw pockets of major lottery prize wins across Australian states and territories this year, it’s important to remember that a division one win can land anywhere at any time,” he said.

“As many lottery winners tell us, you’ve got to be in it for the chance to win it!”
