On Sunday morning, a small group of activists waving Palestinian flags and a signboards stood at the entrance of HMAS Coonawarra ahead of the pair’s visit to UK aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales.

Justin Tutty told the NT News the group wanted to make their voices heard to those at the highest level of government.

“Our message today is to scrap AUKUS,” he said.

“We’re not surprised at all by the announcements from the UK - it is a very good deal for them.”

Mr Tutty was referring to the UK’s commitment to deepen its AUKUS submarine commitment with Australia - a deal which Mr Tutty said would reap rewards for London, not Australia.

“We’re bearing all the geopolitical risk and, of course, the huge price tag.”

Fellow activist Suki Dorras-Walker said the staged protest was also intended to bring light to the ongoing crisis in Gaza.

“I’m here with others standing in solidarity with Palestine and those in Gaza and the West Bank,” she said.

“We’re here to do everything we can to stop the genocide.

“And we’re asking our foreign minister, and we’re asking Richard Marles, and we’re asking David Lammy, to do what they can to stop the genocide and to do more - everyone needs to be doing more.”
