Two teens have been arrested after they allegedly attacked a 71-year-old man in his Palmerston home during a shocking home invasion.
The man was rushed to hospital after being found on the floor of his home on Star Court in Woodroffe about 7am on Wednesday.
The offenders are alleged to have assaulted the man with an edged weapon before stealing his grey Ford Territory station wagon.
Police received intelligence the alleged offenders were at an address in Moulden.
Officers from Serious Crime, Strike Force Trident and the Fugitive Task Force went to the location and arrested two boys aged 13 and 14.
Both remain in police custody with charges expected to follow.
The stolen motor vehicle was found in Woodroffe.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Alicia Harvey said the alleged actions of the teens was “despicable”.
“I would like to commend the swift actions of all those involved in these arrests,” she said.
“We will continue to ensure those who engage in criminal behaviour are held accountable and are brought before the courts.”
Assistant Commissioner Janelle Tonkin said the 71-year-old sustained serious injuries and is now receiving treatment in hospital, but is in a stable condition.
“He reported to police that his home was unlawfully entered and that two males were involved,” she said.
“He sustained edged weapon injuries and his vehicle, a grey Ford Territory station wagon, was stolen.”
