The NT footy community is mourning following the death of a Top End player known for his silky skills and bubbly personality.

The Darwin Buffaloes Football Club posted that a club junior had died earlier this week.

The club initialled the player’s name as TC due to cultural reasons.

TC joined the Buffs in 2021 as a 15-year-old and his talent was quickly apparent for anyone who watched him play with his ability to make an impression whenever he played in the years since.

“The Darwin Buffaloes Football Club extends our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and teammates of our much-loved brother, TC,” the club posted.

“TC joined our club as a highly talented 15-year-old and instantly made an impact, not just with his silky skills and tenacity on the field, but also with his vibrant, bubbly personality off it.

“He was a gifted footballer who knew where the goals were and showed his talent at the highest level, representing the Darwin Buffaloes in the Men’s Premier League last season.

“You’ll be missed, brother, Rest in peace. If you’re struggling, you’re not alone.”

The AFLNT said the thoughts of the organisation went out to everyone who knew TC and that they had been offering support to the club.

“Firstly, our thoughts are with the player’s family, and the wider football community during this difficult time,” an AFLNT spokeswoman said.

“AFLNT is in regular contact with the club and offering support.”

The AFLNT’s has had a strong focus on mental health and wellbeing, and is exploring ways to play a constructive role in the space including future initiatives or dedicated rounds.

It follows a call to action from across the AFL world surrounding mental health after the sudden death of Adam Selwood last week.

The West Coast champion died just three months after his twin brother Troy Selwood took his life pushing many to raise the flag for mental health awareness.

Adam had raised more than $25k for charity zero2hero and was set for a charity run in Troy’s honour this weekend.

The West Coast Eagles honoured his passing ahead of their win against St Kilda with captain Oscar Allen delivering a plea to those struggling to reach out to those around them.
