WINNING Fashions on the Field competitor Allison Harvey whipped up her stylish outfit in just under three days.

The creative sewed her dress using Marimekko material and took an online course to create her halo fascinator.

She said winning a FOTF contest was something she had been working towards for years.

“I‘m very excited for anyone who knows me knows that I’ve tried to do this for about five years now, so it’s, it’s, it’s pretty great,” she said.

She has been sewing since she was six and often makes her race day outfits.

Also turning heads in the fashion stakes was top five competitor Kim Watkinson.

The fashion forward punter opted for the eye-catching and appropriately coloured bag in the shape of an Ibis, also known as a bin chicken.

The Australian designed handbag took about nine months to arrive, with the Ladbrokes NT Derby Day proving to be the perfect first outing.

“I mean it’s just so appropriate,” Ms Watkinson said.

“Darwin Fashions on the Field is the best place for an ibis handbag, is there anywhere else that you could wear it.”

Enjoying the races was Meredith Batey, who had won on several races by midafternoon.

She was one of thousands lapping up the great weather and atmosphere trackside.

“Derby day is great, it’s a good day out with friends,” she said.

She said she normally only bet on Melbourne Cup but had made the exception for a flutter at Derby Day.

The next race meet for the Darwin Cup is on July 24.
