‘A standout community’: Ikuntji/ Haasts Bluff crowned NT’s tidiest town of 2025
A ‘stand out community’ in the Red Centre has been crowned the Territory’s town of the year. Find who took out the coveted spot.
A “standout community” approximately 227km east of Alice Springs has been crowned the Territory’s tidiest town of the year.
Ikuntji/ Haasts Bluff was given the crown at a ceremony at a Parliament House in Darwin, organised by the Keep Australia Beautiful Council NT.
“The community is committed to improving liveability and wellbeing, keeping Ikuntji proud and strong,” KABC NT chief executive Heimo Schober said.
“Their dedication makes them a standout community in this year’s awards.”
The MacDonnell Regional Council, which Ikuntji are a part of, took out awards in most of the categories at the awards, Mr Schober said.
“The MacDonnell Regional Council staff, traditional owners and residents are very deserving of this award, and I congratulate them on their success,” he said.
The community also took out the gong last year, making it back to back wins for the town, which counts 82 residents, according to data from 2021 Australian Bureau of Statistic census.
The small community will now represent the Territory on the national stage in Launceston May next year.
