A Tassie farmer and tourism operator woke up to a shock sight when he discovered a resident possum had caused some serious damage, saying the marsupials “shouldn’t be underestimated”.

On Thursday, Mount Gnomon Farm at Penguin owner Guy Robertson woke to find a “naughty” possum had flipped the electricity switch on a silo, emptying 12 tonnes of grain over his Mazda BT-50 ute.

He took to Facebook, posting a photo of the marsupial madness – and said it wasn’t the first time it had happened.

“The moment when a naughty possum turns on the switch on your electricity and empties 12 tonnes of grain over your ute and ground,” he wrote.

“It has happened before. We should of learned the lesson in underestimating the intellectual capacity of a possum. Definitely unplugging in the future and installing cameras to capture the cheeky culprit.”

Mr Robertson said he wanted to give a shout out to the team from Tasmanian Stockfeeds “who at short notice brought out a giant vacuum to put the grain back in the silo”.

“There is never a dull moment at the farm and yes there were a few expletives.”
The post attracted over 50 comments, with one user calling the incident “priceless”.
