Those who have been to Wings Wildlife Park recently might have noticed a cute new pair of furry friends.

After being born at the site, a pair of Tasmanian devils are now on display to the public.

The devils do not have names yet, with Wings Wildlife Park currently holding a competition for the public to give them a moniker.

Senior wildlife keeper Nicole Mason said the pair had taken well to the spotlight.

“They normally just go to sleep and have a little snuggle in their pouch,” Ms Mason said.

“Everyone absolutely loves being able to see these little guys up close and see them and say hello.”

Ms Mason said there were multiple devil enclosures at Wings Wildlife Park.

“Throughout the day, people can see our adult devils, and we have our presentations every day when they get to see Tasmanian devils having a feed and interacting.

“We do offer our little baby devil experiences where they can actually get up close with our baby devils.

“We have also got a couple of older girls that still enjoy having a little cuddle and meeting people.”

With the devil population facing challenges such as being run over by vehicles on roads and facial tumour disease, Ms Mason said it was good to showcase them at the wildlife park.

“It’s really important to be able to educate people about Tasmanian devils, which it is they are doing for us out there in the ecosystem in the environment, and just trying to protect these guys as much as we can.”

Ms Mason said summer visitation numbers to Wings Wildlife Park had been good.

“We’ve got cruise ships coming through Burnie, so we’ve got a lot of international visitors coming to the park at the moment.

“The international visitors absolutely love it; they can’t get enough.

“They just think it’s amazing that they can actually get so close and see a lot of native animals that they don’t have the opportunity to see back home.

“Some of them have come such a long way to see Tasmanian devils or kangaroos.”
