Director of Public Heath Mark Veitch said the cluster involved four people from the Smithton area, two from Launceston and one from the broader North West – all connected to one another.

“We have a large team of people working on the cluster to contract trace and we have a picture of the network of cases,” Dr Veitch said.

“The situation is being monitored daily.

Dr Veitch said the cluster involved a “well defined circle’ of people and authorities were doing all they could it keep it under control.

“I expect we will see more cases. That is why we have people under surviellance and encouraging anyone with the slightest sniffle to get tested.”
