UPDATE: The man behind the lens responsible for the capture of a shocking video, showing a young woman straddling a drinking fountain in a short skirt, has revealed what happened off camera.
“This chick was doing this in front of like 30 people in front of the kabab shop on Shields St,” Terrie Collins said.
“Looked like she was either cleaning her bits in the drink fountain or taking a leak, but I won’t be the judge of that.
“It was a mixed (reaction at the time) between cheering and booing and two Thursday Island chicks were next to us saying how disgusting it was,” Mr Collins said.
EARLIER: Parched people thinking about drinking from bubblers in the Cairns CBD will be reconsidering wetting their whistle in the wake of this disturbing video.
The shocking footage shows what appears to be the woman straddling the water fountain. The video has been spread across social media.
Terrie Collins posted the video showing one woman turning on the water while her friend sits atop the bubbler in a skirt.
“Is it normal to have a freshen up on the drink tap girls. Or is this just a Cairns thing?” he asked.
In a lighthearted jab Mr Collins then said “the tap seems to have directions on the pole behind it but maybe they can’t even read pictures”.
Shocked Facebook users expressed their disgust in the comments and speculation ensued about whether the woman was using the drinking fountain as a toilet.
While some were appalled at the lack of respect for others, one thing was clear: anyone who saw the video will be reconsidering drinking from water fountains in the Cairns CBD.
