Girls attacked in the Cairns CBD

HORRIFIC video footage depicting an unprovoked bashing of two girls, out in the Cairns CBD celebrating New Year’s Eve, has triggered an out outpouring of anger on social media.

The video shot on Lake Street by someone linked to the attackers was posted by the father of one of the girls, Richard Hodge.

“Got to love it when you’re (sic) daughter and her friend are walking in town and some little c$#t bashed (her) and filmed it and posted it,” the caption to the post read.

The attackers identified themselves through Instagram profiles leading into the assault.

At least three girls seem to be involved in the attack.

The girls appear to be celebrating New Year’s Eve and show the group on a bus before saying “going to get smokes”.

They then begin following two girls walking down Lake Street.

As the two victims cross a road the attackers pounce.

One girl can be seen dragging another by the hair along the road while the other repeatedly deals punches to the head of the other victim.

Mr Hodge said his daughter was excited about being out in the city on her own for the first time “until happened”.

Last night the father said “the girls are okay just a bit bruised”.

Response to the attack on social media ranged from shock to anger while many were concerned for the young victims.

It is unknown if the incident has been reported to police.
