Tourism boom for Coffs Harbour restaurant where Robert Irwin dined and dashed

A small Aussie restaurant has had a surprising reaction to Robert Irwin dining and dashing on them this week after the incident had an unintended consequence.

A restaurant in Coffs Harbour is “honoured” that the son of the late environmentalist Steve Irwin accidentally stole a salad.

During a coastal roadtrip this week, Robert Irwin stopped in at The Jetty Pavilion for dinner only to be mobbed by fans.

While Irwin graciously signed autographs and posed for selfies, restaurant staff boxed up his meal to take away so he could enjoy it in peace.

However, in all the commotion the young wildlife warrior forgot one important thing – to pay the bill.

But rather than be annoyed, the small business is over the moon as after they turned down Irwin’s offer to stump up for the salad, he paid them back a thousand-fold by giving them a shout out on social media which was echoed by his famous sister Bindi and mum Terri.

“I just did the old dine and dash,” Irwin said on Instagram.

“I felt terrible.”

He then proceeded to sing the praises of the “fantastic local business” with a “great team,” “great food” and “amazing atmosphere.”

As a result, both the restaurant and the Coffs Harbour community are expecting a tourism boom with Irwin fans from across the globe pledging to come and visit.

The Jetty Pavilion has taken to Instagram to explain why they are “still buzzing” and “what this experience has meant for our little coastal restaurant and community.”

“Your kind words have created an incredible boost of tourism and spirit for the Coffs Coast,” the restaurant shared.

“Our beautiful, bustling coastal town full of rich nature, food, and coffee heaven.

“You’ve not only shone a light on us but on the incredible local producers, artisans, and landscapes that make this region so special.

“We are so honoured and the door’s always open for you. A lifetime of free salads, that’s for certain!”
