The stage is almost set for another big Australia Day and The Daily Telegraph has the comprehensive guide of events across the state today.

Thousands will flock to Sydney Harbour for a specially curated festival of non-stop entertainment on the water, in the sky and on the foreshore.

There is plenty to see and do for those staying at home over the public holiday long weekend with council-planned celebrations featuring free live music, fireworks and indigenous ceremonies.

SYDNEY HARBOUR

1. P&O CRUISE SHIPS

All day | Sydney Harbour

Come down early to see these impressive cruise ships up close as they join us to celebrate Australia Day. P&O Cruises will be showcasing the Pacific Eden and Pacific Explorer on Sydney Harbour, with Pacific Aria passing through to and from White Bay.

2. LORD MAYOR’S CITIZENSHIP CEREMONY

Welcome to Oz! Join the Lord Mayor of Sydney in welcoming our newest Australian citizens, at the Tallawoladah Stage next to the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

3. NSW TRUE BLUES

10.00am-4.00pm | Overseas Passenger Terminal Awesome giveaways all day long! Meet NSW Blues legends, collect your Blatchys Blues wig and get your photo with the men’s and women’s State of Origin Shields.

4. CHILL OUT ZONE

10.00am-4.00pm | Overseas Passenger Terminal (Food trucks and wharf open until 9.30pm) Enjoy live music and gourmet food trucks. Try origami or explore a world of books inside Russ the Story Bus.

5. TALLAWOLADAH STAGE

12.30am-4.00pm | Campbells Cove Stories, music, song and dance with The Koomurri Aboriginal Dance Troupe, right next to the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

6. FERRYTHON

11.00am-11.30am | Sydney Harbour One of Australia’s most iconic free events is back. Our beloved ferries race from Circular Quay to Shark Island and then back to a glorious finish at the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Pack a picnic, gather on the foreshore and barrack for your favourite ferry. Toot toot!

7. SALUTE TO AUSTRALIA

11.30am-12.05pm | Sydney Harbour

A stirring 21-gun military salute from our armed forces and the awe-inspiring HMAS Choules. Hear the NSW Governor’s Address then join a crowd of epic choirs — young and old from across NSW — to sing our national anthem to the sky as RAAF fast jets soar overhead.

8. TUG & YACHT BALLET

12.05pm-12.15pm | Circular Quay

It’s the waltz to watch from the water’s edge. An eclectic company of yachts, tugboats, jet skis and ferries dance effortlessly across the harbour in a magically choreographed show.

9. IN THE SKY

12.00pm-2.00pm | Above Sydney Harbour RAAF fast jets, a Navy helicopter and a Qantas aircraft shoot across the sky before Red Berets parachute over Farm Cove.

10. AUSTRALIA DAY HARBOUR PARADE

12.45pm-2.00pm | Sydney Harbour Bridge

Look out! The harbour is recast with bright colours and flags, with an armada of vessels of all shapes and sizes parading the waves.

11. TALL SHIPS RACE

1.00pm-1.30pm | Bradleys Head to Sydney Harbour Bridge

The tall ships battle to win the coveted Tall Ships Trophy. Find a spot to watch but be prepared: their cannons will boom. Afterwards, step on board and explore historic ships at the Overseas Passenger Terminal.

12. 183RD AUSTRALIA DAY REGATTA

From 1.30pm | Eastern Sydney Harbour

Proudly sailing since 1837! All manner of vessels from 18-foot skiffs to radio-controlled models set sail in the race of the ages.

13. AUSTRALIA DAY LIVE 2019

6:30pm-9.30pm — Circular Quay

Australia’s biggest music stars rock out along with a flotilla of yachts, jet skis, flyboarders and spectacular fireworks. Yothu Yindi and The Treaty Project will perform on the Tallawoladah Stage while Kate Ceberano, Ricki Lee, Anthony Callea, Karise Eden, Conrad Sewell, Jon Stevens, Harts and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra perform at the Sydney Opera House. Sydney Opera House Forecourt is ticketed and has reached capacity. Live on ABC TV from 7.30pm. Tickets at australiaday.com.au but will sell out.

THE ROCKS

14. GIO OZ DAY 10K WHEELCHAIR RACE

9.00am-10.30am | The Rocks

It’s the 30th anniversary of the hottest race on wheels. The champions of the chairs rip up the Rocks in the fastest street circuit race you’ll ever see. (Watch along Hickson Road or George Street near Circular Quay.)

15. WARRANE DJ STAGE

12.00pm-6.00pm | The Rocks

Whatever your groove, you found it. Kick up your feet with food and drink from our licensed bar, or get down with dynamic musical artists SaxBeatz. Let their sweet sounds, from tropical house to delicious funk, take you away.

Rock your senses at Australia’s favourite street party. With giant interactive games, roving performers and trucks full of tasty delights, what else could you want?

How about the local fashion, jewellery and original art of the world-famous Rocks Markets? Challenge your friends, meet your neighbours or just lose yourself in the family-friendly playground.

DARLING HARBOUR

17. CHILDREN’S FESTIVAL

11.00am-3.00pm | Tumbalong Park

Welcome to a world of giggle-tainment. The superstars of children’s fun, The Wiggles, bring their irresistible songs to get you dancing in the morning (ticket allocation exhausted). Then jiggle just a little bit more with live music from The Vegetable Plot and The Beanies. Take an exciting workshop at the Circus Playground, marvel at the Big Science show or get involved with roving performers and the entertaining True Blue Bush Games.

18. AFTERNOON SUMMER SESSIONS

3.00pm-8.00pm | Tumbalong Park

Okay mum and dad, now it’s your turn to party. Darling Harbour comes to life all afternoon with fine dining and fantastic outdoor venues. Grab a drink at the pop-up bar then cut loose to some essential funk and soul music — including nine-piece funk-soul powerhouse band, The Bamboos, live on the main stage.

BARANGAROO

19. WUGULORA MORNING CEREMONY

7.45am-8.30am | Walumil Lawns at Barangaroo Reserve and Sydney Harbour Bridge

One country, one mob. As the sun rises, connect with the world’s oldest living culture. Join the Premier and Governor of NSW to celebrate our traditional custodians, watch Koomurri Aboriginal Dance Troupe perform a smoking ceremony, then sing the national anthem as the Aboriginal and Australian flags are raised on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

20. THE VIGIL

Overnight from dusk, 25 January | Barangaroo Reserve

Gather at dusk for the lighting of a fire. A vigil will be held overnight to reflect on the impact of colonisation in Australia, the significance of the day before the First Fleet arrived, and what happened after.

21. ALWAYS

9-27 January | Barangaroo Reserve

The headland hosts a large-scale sculpture by local Bangarra artist-in-residence Jacob Nash, featuring the declaration ‘ALWAYS’: always was, always will be. Presented by Sydney Festival.

NORTH SYDNEY

22. BBQ BY THE BRIDGE

10.00am-4.00pm | Bradfield Park, Milsons Point

The famous BBQ has gone global with delicious barbecued cuisines from around the world and free live entertainment. Kids can try some circus moves, face painting, a jumping castle and so much more!

23. VINTAGE BUSES

10.30am-5.00pm | Selected Sydney streets

Travel like it’s 1949 on a double decker from Sydney Opera House to North Sydney to enjoy the BBQ by the Bridge then ride back again!

Anyone for a picnic? Bring a basket and stroll the astonishing gardens in and around the Governor’s residence. Hosted tours are available on the hour.

25. FESTIVAL GARDEN

4.30pm until late | Hyde Park North

The Festival is in town! Head to Hyde Park to visit the Magic Mirrors Spiegeltent and Festival Garden. Enjoy a drink as the DJs spin records, or take in an audacious show (there are both free and ticketed performances).

Make your way to Camperdown and celebrate the world’s oldest living culture with traditional dance performances, children’s craft workshops, live music, food and craft stalls. The main stage will showcase some of the best Indigenous music performers in the country. This is a family event and alcohol-free.
