Police had one of their “easiest” drug busts when a van carrying more than $200 million worth of ice crashed into police cars parked outside a Sydney cop shop.
The haul was of the biggest in a month when close to a tonne of ice was seized in Sydney and is among the 10 top crime stories covered by The Daily Telegraph in July.

WOMAN ‘BEHEADED’ BY DAUGHTER IN SYDNEY
In a story that shocked Sydney, 25-year-old Jessica Camilleri was charged with murder following allegations she decapitated her mother in their western Sydney home on July 20.
The 57-year-old’s head was found in a neighbour’s front yard. The grandparents of the young boy who hid in the home during the alleged crime have spoken of the profound effect the incident had on the child. WARNING: Graphic content.
CANADIAN ADVENTURE TURNS TO HORROR
Australia has been gripped by the murder of Lucas Fowler, son of one of NSW’s most senior police officers, and his girlfriend Chynna Deese while on a trip of a lifetime in Canada.
Gunned down in what police believe was a killing spree by two teens Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, the hunt for the suspects in the wilds of British Columbia has now taken another frustrating turn.
POLICE STORM JUVENILE PRISON TO END RIOT
Several inmates were stabbed during a riot at a juvenile detention centre on the NSW Central Coast, with police forced to storm the facility to end the violent standoff. Twenty-one people have been charged after the riot broke out at Frank Baxter Juvenile Justice Centre at Kariong which was described by authorities as “nothing short of horrific”.
POLICE RENEW HUNT FOR CLUES IN 1991 KILLING
The savage murder of Penny Hill, 20, who left her hometown of Narrabri to work as a nanny for an Australian rock star, has never been solved. Found bashed and left for dead on a roadside in Coolah, on July 8, 1991, NSW Police have now reopened the case, and former boyfriend of the murdered nanny Shane Williams has spoken out about her death.
BIZARRE DATING APP KIDNAP PLOT
A high-achieving graduate of an elite Catholic school admitted to taking part in a bizarre kidnapping plot where a man was lured to an eastern suburbs home on a dating app before being bound with duct tape and robbed.
384KG COKE HAUL IN EXCAVATOR
Rebels bikies are believed to be behind the importation of $144 million of cocaine hidden in a second-hand excavator bound for the NW ski fields. Within 24 hours of the 384kg seizure, allegedly shipped from South Africa, and the arrest of two men, former South African soccer star Marc Batchelor was executed. Authorities believe the crimes are linked.
WIDOWER IN SAME HOSPITAL AS WIFE’S KILLER

FORMER TV EXEC IN ALLEGED $8 MILLION FRAUD
A former Channel 7 executive allegedly used 700 dodgy invoices to steal $8 million from the commercial TV network. John Fitzgerald, 58, was arrested by Financial Crimes Squad officers at his Breakfast Point home this month following a long-standing investigation into alleged “misappropriation of funds”.
