Russell Crowe reveals true thoughts on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during Joe Rogan podcast
Russell Crowe has revealed his true thoughts on Anthony Albanese while appearing on Joe Rogan’s podcast.
Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe has come out swinging in defence of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during a candid discussion on The Joe Rogan Experience, criticising what he described as a “conga line of stupidity” within Australian politics.
Speaking on the popular podcast, Crowe said he believed Aussies were “lucky at the moment”, praising the PM as someone genuinely motivated to help his constituents after being asked by Joe Rogan: “What is wrong with Australia?”
“We have a Prime Minister who’s very much motivated by trying to help everybody, which should be the job of a politician right? To improve the lives of the people they represent,” Crowe said.
“He’s kind of inherited a conga line of stupidity … and he’s trying to fix things.”
The Gladiator star said the PM was working “extremely hard” and deserved credit for recent international achievements – but that political opponents and sections of the media were quick to discredit him.
“He arrives off a plane the other day, just came back from some very successful international meetings where he’s established various trade things and opportunities for Australia,” he said.
“(He) gets off the plane wearing a Joy Division shirt – big band from his youth – and he’s just a relaxed character. He’s been wearing a suit and tie for weeks on the road.”
Crowe went on to describe how the leader of the opposition, Sussan Ley, seized the moment to criticise the shirt’s reference to “Joy Division” – a term historically associated with Nazi concentration camps.
“The member of the opposition wanted to point out, and did so in parliament, that Joy Division is a Nazi term … and it’s like okay, what’s the point of that?,” Crowe said.
“We all know it’s a band name, right? Just because you like the Rolling Stones doesn’t mean that you want rocks to be falling on people. What are you f***ing talking about?”
The actor said this kind of political nitpicking distracts from the real work being done, calling it a “smokescreen” that undermines genuine progress.
“That’s what we’re facing all the time,” he said.
“Picking up some pointless piece of minutiae and lighting it on fire to cover up the reality that the Prime Minister worked his ass off on behalf of the country and successfully achieved a bunch of things.
“(He) should be patted on the back, not pushed down the stairs.”
Many Aussies were divided by Crowe’s comments, with some even labelling the actor as “out of touch”.
“He’s detached from the ordinary person. He spends half the time jet setting around the world, making movies, living the life. The rest of the time at his bush property. He doesn’t know what normal people are going through,” one viewer wrote.
“He makes a great point at the end but he’s still totally missing the big picture because like ever other celebrity he’s completely out of touch due to his phenomenal wealth,” another said.
“Oh dear. Guess I won’t be watching re runs of Gladiator any more,” another commented – a move that is sure to greatly impact Crowe’s wealth.
Others were in full support of the actor’s position.
“He’s absolutely spot on. but unfortunately there’s to many fools who push BS narratives with no facts whatsoever,” one wrote.
“I’m not Albo’s biggest fan but Russell hit the nail on the head with this one,” another said.
“This is true. The PM is doing a great job,” a third wrote.
Last month, Ms Ley used a prime-time slot in parliament to accuse Mr Albanese of “displaying the wrong values” by wearing a black T-shirt depicting the cover of Joy Division’s hit album Unknown Pleasures.
“At a time when Jewish Australians are facing a rise in anti-Semitism, when families are asking for reassurance and unity, the Prime Minister chose to parade an image derived from hatred and suffering,” she said.
Ms Ley insisted the shirt was “not a slip of judgement” by the PM as he had been told about the “dark origins” of the name back in 2022.
None of Australia’s major Jewish organisations chose to back Ms Ley in, or complain about Mr Albanese’s choice of outfit.
“There’s a lot to legitimately criticise the prime minister about … wearing a T-shirt isn’t one of them,” Shadow Infrastructure Minister Bridget McKenzie told Seven.
Mr Albanese recently signed a deal on rare earth minerals with Donald Trump, and was praised by the US President as a “great Prime Minister.”
