Phoebe Burgess is drawing strength from her recent domestic break-up and recasting herself as a champion to young mums and women doing it tough.
In one of half a dozen posts to Instagram last week Burgess said she has been inundated with “soul-baring messages, impossible confessions, heartbreaking stories and mind bending realisations” from women who have direct-messaged her with their own personal experiences since the breakdown of her marriage to Sam Burgess.
“I am not alone and I never have been in my pain,” wrote Burgess, whose split from the South Sydney player was recently back in the headlines.
“The courage of you – the women who wrote to me unafraid to be desperate – and whose stories or messages I have read again and again, have shown that it’s not enough to simply exist here anymore.”
She said she needed time to “fall apart away from little eyes” and “ugly cry” and urged women needing to do the same to find hep and support from counsellors, pain specialists and mental health professionals to put themselves back together.
LECKIE JNR MAKING MARK ON INSTAGRAM
HARRY Leckie, the son of retired TV executive David and Sydney socialite wife Skye, is becoming quite the fixture on hair stylist Joh Bailey’s Instagram page.
Harry’s well-coiffured mother has long been a regular at Bailey’s Double Bay salon and occasionally pops up on Bailey’s social media pages, while her husband, Dave “The Wave” Leckie, formerly of the Seven and Nine Networks, and the couple’s youngest son, Ben, generally opt for a lower profile.
Not so, however, for the handsome and leggy fashion-loving Harry, who counts Francesca Packer Barham among society friends and clearly takes after his mother (albeit with cigarette hanging nonchalantly from lip) in more ways than one.
No sign of late of the budding interior design career he was pursuing a year ago but possibly it’s taken a back seat, like so many things, during the pandemic.
Meanwhile, we hear Harry’s father recently had a stint in hospital to deal with health problems that have plagued him for much of the past decade.
