‘Racist and proud’: Neo-Nazis attempt separate march down Sydney’s King Street
National Socialist Network members have attempted a separate march down a major Sydney road, telling a reporter they are “racist and proud”.
Neo-Nazi protesters attempted to begin a separate march down Sydney’s King Street, following the conclusion of today’s ‘March for Australia’ at Victoria Park.
Footage shows the group – donning all black outfits – marching down City Road towards Newtown while accompanied by multiple police officers.
National Socialist Network (NSN) member Jack Eltis told media that NSN was “racist and proud”.
“Yeah we are racist, and we’re proud of who we are as white men,” he said.
“We built this nation, our ancestors built this land for us and we’re proud of that.”
A Channel 10 reporter then asks Mr Eltis, “So you’re proud to be a racist?”
“Yes, of course. We put our race first,” he responded.
“Are you neo-Nazis?” asks the reporter.
“Yes. We’re National Socialists,” he replies.
At least four riot-squad vehicles can be seen following the group as they arrive at the top of King Street.
The men are then directed down a side street where officers appear to instruct them to change out of their NSN ‘uniforms’.
Footage then shows them being diverted away from King Street and towards Redfern Station, followed by three officers on bikes.
Newtown is widely regarded as one of the city’s most progressive suburbs, with a strong history of left-leaning politics and activism.
The suburb has consistently kept the Greens in power since the seat was re-established in 2015, re-electing Jenny Leong with strong majorities at every state election.
Clashes erupt at protests
Earlier today, clashes erupted at Melbourne’s ‘March for Australia’ rally between National Socialist Network (NSN) members, Australian-Israeli far-right commentator Avi Yemini and conservative content creator Rukshan Fernando.
In footage shared to social media, Yemini is seen flanked by security while NSN members, including leader and prominent neo-Nazi Thomas Sewell, march towards them, chanting “deport, deport”.
One man marching alongside Sewell can then be seen throwing a punch at a security guard before an all out brawl erupts.
Men dressed head-to-toe in black then swarm the security guard, beating him with Australian flag poles while he attempts to protect his head with his hands.
A woman can also be seen stepping in the middle, attempting to de-escalate the situation.
Protesters condemned
Anti-immigration marches and counter-protests are underway in capital cities across Australia, with thousands taking to the streets.
A significant police presence including the riot squad, police horses and a helicopter will accompany the marchers.
Protesters at the event voice a smattering of grievances, from cost of living, the housing crisis, power bills and immigration.
Victorian Police Minister Anthony Carbines has labelled protesters as “unhinged grubs”.
“They’re just grubs, absolute grubs, and we know what they’re there for: to promote hate in the community, to blame people for their gripes and their complaints and their whinges,” he said.
“We will do everything we can to wrap our arms around those who feel vulnerable and upset at this time and make sure that they get the support that they need.”
Meanwhile, Senator Murray Watt has also condemned the rallies, saying they were “not about increasing social harmony.”
“I think the vast majority of Australians think that multiculturalism has been a good thing for our country,” Senator Watt told Sky News.
“We don’t support rallies like this that are about spreading hate and that are about dividing our community.”
