INTEREST in a mass naked event planned for Geelong’s waterfront in December continues to grow at a rapid rate.

INTEREST in a mass naked event planned for Geelong’s waterfront in December continues to grow at a rapid rate.

Police are yet to contact the organisers of the event, which has been created by Facebook page Take The Piss Geelong, the page’s administrators told the Addy yesterday.

The popular page is well-known known for posting satirical content.

The administrators of the page yesterday said they expected to be contacted by police very soon judging by the growing interest in the ‘mass nudie run’.

As of yesterday afternoon, about 1900 people had said they were attending the event on Facebook.

About 6100 had said they were ‘interested’, up from 3600 last Wednesday.

“With ‘Run Geelong’ being cancelled this year we thought we’d create our own run,” the Facebook event description reads.

“The very first ‘Mass NUDIE RUN’ in Geelong! Who’s in? Let’s fill Ritchie Boulevard with nude people!”

On Friday, Take The Piss Geelong shared the event to its page, with the caption: “In case you missed it and want to sign up before we get shut down!”

Acting superintendent Graham Banks last week urged members of the public not to get involved in the event, which is slated for the afternoon of December 8 at Ritchie Boulevard.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman last week said police were attempting to contact the organisers.

Victoria Police did not respond to follow-up questions regarding any contact with the organisers, and whether police were attempting to have the event cancelled, in time for deadline yesterday.

A Victoria Police spokesman last week said people who exposed themselves in a public place could be charged with wilful and obscene exposure.

Criminal lawyer Scott Belcher told the Addy prosecutions would hinge on complaints being made by the public.

“Exposing your sexual parts needs to be put in context, and against community standards or expectations,” Mr Belcher said.

“This type of case very much depends on offended civilian witnesses.”

Mr Belcher said people charged could face up to two months in jail or fines of more than $1500 if found guilty for a first offence.
