TWO Darwin mixologists are putting their skills to the test as the only Australians invited to be part of a global cocktail-making competition.
Hot Tamale owner David Robinson and manager Anneliese Grazioli have each created a custom-made cocktail for the Tequila Patron Margarita of the Year competition, which challenges bartenders to create the ‘perfect margarita’.

Ms Grazioli, whose ’Sunburnt Margarita’ entry includes bitter orange, mango and lemongrass, said the competition raised cocktail-making to the level of art.
“We’re not making classic cocktails … what we do is more similar to what a chef would do in a kitchen,” she said.
“We’re not just putting tequila in a glass, we’re looking at what flavour profile that tequila has, and then looking for other flavours that complement that tequila.”

The competition is being held virtually this year with all entered recipes published online, and will be decided by public vote.
