'Australia has spoken': Labor has 'emphatic' win in federal election

Peter Dutton apologised to Liberal Party supporters, Anthony Albanese waved as he celebrated … and many Aussie voters lost their minds.

Labor’s re-election in a crushing victory prompted the Opposition Leader to say sorry amid speculation over who may now take his role.

“It is not our night as I point out, and there are good members and candidates who have lost their seats, their ambition and I am sorry for that. We have an amazing party, and we will rebuild,” he said.

Prime Minister Albanese, meanwhile, wrapped up his near 30-minute address by turning to fiancee Jodie Haydon.

“I am so grateful for your support, your friendship and your love,” he said.

“You make me so happy.”

Readers, though, remain torn over the landslide result, with many suggesting the LNP lost the election as much as Labor winning it.

Others, however, claimed the government had runs on the board; while some suggested all Aussies are losers over this result.

WHAT YOU SAID

I told you

Ben

Why is everyone loosing their minds over this..? On both sides. There has only been 1 first term govt overturned. this election was just going through the motions …

Keep Them Honest

Maybe the Liberals will realise this was a good night. The electorate got rid of the talentless hacks that they refused to deal with. Lessons should be learned now for a proper rebuild.

Bryan

Everyone is saying how Clive got nothing for his 60 million. We got nothing for 400 plus million on the voice. Very little for the billion on housing. AND IT WAS OUR MONEY. At least Clive was only wasting his own.

Luke

That’s what happens when you import millions of voters. Australia is screwed. Albo will now make sure the voice is implemented, continue on his madness for green energy and leave us utter ruined with his financial incompetence

Pat

This the end of the Liberal party Time to start a new political party

Not Labor again

Fred

The voters will regret this very quickly. Allowing Labor ultimate power with an ineffective opposition will end in tears

Claudia

Good one Australians. Vote to be financially squeezed for three more years and beyond. What a gift you have just given to your children and grandchildren.

Dave

Australia has a PM who is Australia’s Biggest LIAR who can never be trusted. Good luck surviving the next 3 years.

Alan

I am 70+ years old and I really fear for Australia’s future. We are living on the wealth of our minerals exports and paying the earnings away in government handouts and we have trained our population to expect more.

Libs had no chance

Colin

The people have voted for a centrist, balanced government with sensible values. The Liberal Party promoted bolshie politics with socialist power generation, bigger deficits to spread higher taxes and cuddling up to Trump style populism

Kangaroo

Dutton failed as he has a bunch of turkeys around him, look at Taylor, he was going to be the treasurer and he can’t multiply two simple figures! Then you have screaming Cash, dopey Ley, that horrible Sukkar, I could go on and name the lot of them!

Bruce

The Liberals have showed the lack of talent they have in the party. The same people were all faceless in Morrison’s Government and were no better under Dutton. To the many doubters move on and if you want to support the Libs they really need a clean out of the deadwood at the top.

Anthony

What did Dutton in was he has to much integrity, too honest to be in that mugs game. Albo has a double PHD in telling lies an the leaners fall for it.
