Coles unveils 150 new items for Christmas

As part of its national move toward a more sustainable future, Coles have released its first range of plastic-free and recyclable festive crackers, cards and decorations.

The announcement comes as Coles unveiled its Christmas 2021 range on Wednesday, with more than 150 new festive products rolling out in over the coming months.

Customers can already purchase Christmas puddings, fruit mince pies and bakery treats with more chilled products arriving in stores this week, followed by Aussie hams and seafood in November and Hunter Valley turkeys and turducken in mid-December.

Coles Group CEO Steven Cain said the focus this year would be on sustainability and “easy-to-cook” meals after “another challenging year for so many Australians”.

“We want to be Australia’s most sustainable supermarket and last month we were ranked number two among global food retailers for sustainable practices,” he said.

“We prioritise sustainability right across our business and Christmas is no exception – so this year at Coles, it’s not going to be a white Christmas, it’s going to be a green one.”

The decorative range will be free of glitter and plastic and include 100 per cent recyclable greeting cards, hanging decorations, crackers and wooden children’s toys.

“We want to make this entertaining season as easy and affordable as possible so they can spend more time sharing and less time preparing with our new and extended range of great quality, easy-to-cook meal solutions,” Mr Cain said.

“The past few years have given us a renewed appreciation of what we have here in Australia – the people, the food and the communities.

“We’ve been working hard with our team of suppliers, product developers, farmers, development chefs, our supply chain and team members to deliver easy meal solutions that provide great value and offer exceptional quality.”

Coles Ambassador Courtney Roulston said the extensive range of food options – including crackling ham rib rack roast, plant-based Christmas roast and the supermarket’s first-ever turducken – had all been created with an easy, stress-free Christmas Day in mind.

“I think for a lot of people, Christmas is still up in the air, we don’t know where we’ll be able to go but one thing we know is Christmas Day will be made easier with Coles,” she said.
