CENTENARIAN Rory O’Toole celebrates his 100th birthday today after a long life well lived, filled uniquely with the card game bridge.
Having played for almost 89 years, Mr O’Toole said he felt bridge, which had formed a large part of the later stages of his life in Darwin, where he has lived since 2015, helped him keep his wits.

“My secret to a long life is inspiration from the love of my daughters, which led me to a healthier lifestyle, giving up the drink, staying fit from hard physical work and sport, and mentally active from the requirements of managing manufacturing companies and of course, playing bridge.”

His passion saw him play a large part in the bridge community in Darwin, at the Arafura Bridge Club, Darwin Bridge Club and NT Bridge Association.
“He’s (Rory) just a gentleman and a great bridge player,” Arafura Bridge Club president Marion Davey said.
