Emergency services personnel looking for missing swimming Dylan Zidarich will use drones and conduct a ground search along the coastal area today.

Police concluded Tuesday’s search for the Adelaide man, who is missing at sea on the Yorke Peninsula coast, after treacherous conditions made the operation difficult.

Mr Zidarich went missing during a morning swim on Monday, when a large wave crashed down on him in the water off Inneston, near Marion Bay.

He never resurfaced, a witness told police.

Tuesday’s search was unsuccessful despite a police helicopter, CFS, SES, rangers and local volunteers.

It resumed this morning, focusing on the recovery of Mr Zidarich’s body.

Superintendent Mark Syrus said Mr Zidarich’s family and friends were today consoling each other in Adelaide while the search continued.

“They’re very traumatised. It’s a terrible, tragic incident,” Supt Syrus said.

He said the missing man had been camping with two friends at Pondalowie Bay before they stopped at Ethel Wreck Beach.

“They’ve stayed in the water for about five minutes and Dylan was behind his friend,” he said.

“Their plan was to go for a swim, have a picnic and then drive back to Adelaide... but there’s quite a big rip there.”

Unable to see him in the water, Mr Zidarich’s friends raced to a vantage point on a cliff and raised the alarm about midday.

“They could see him in the water floating around near the (cliff) point, then they lost sight of him after 90 minutes,” Supt Syrus said.

A police helicopter made several passes over the cliff in a desperate search for life on Tuesday, while dangerous conditions stopped divers from entering the water and searching an area of rock ledges.

Locals told The Advertiser water in the area – although calm in some spots – was notorious for dangerous rips.
