BILL Shorten got friendly with local shoppers at a grocery store in Queanbeyan on Tuesday, but the conversation in the fresh food aisle was as awkward as his recent dance moves in Kiribati.
The Opposition Leader arrived in the New South Wales town to kick off the 2016 election year, delivering his first press conference for the year which saw him challenge Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to a National Press Club debate on the GST.
But it was Shorten’s idle chitchat in the fruit and veg section of Queanbeyan’s Woolies that had us cringing.
“What’s your favourite type of lettuce?” he asked one woman.

For anyone who might have missed it, the Opposition Leader’s dorky dance moves during his South Pacific trip back in November saw him trending on social media.
Shorten laughed off the cringe-worthy video at the time. “I’m giving hope to dads everywhere,” he said.
