Avis lists four FNQ drives as among Queensland’s best road trips

Avis Australia has recommended four FNQ drives as among the best post-iso road trips in the state. Is your favourite scenic route among them?

FOUR Far Northern road trips have featured in Avis Australia’s top Queensland drives.

Data from Avis Australia revealed a 156% increase in domestic demand for rental car bookings compared to the start of Australia’s lockdown period.

“With international border restrictions still in place, it is more than likely that this year

will be focused on (safely) hitting the road to go exploring – rather than hitting up the airport,” an Avis spokesman said.

The Savannah Way, Mission Beach Coast Road, the Coral Coast and Alexander Drive at Mission Beach have made the cut for Avis’ favourite drives.

“The Savannah Way road trip is perfect for those wanting to immerse themselves into remote country Australia,” the spokesman said.

The rankings follow the release of Booking.com’s top 10 destinations in Australia and Queensland for domestic travellers.

Cairns and Port Douglas made both lists.

The figures were gleaned by comparing wishlist data between­ March and April and the same period last year.

Nationally, Cairns was ranked No 7 and Port Douglas made the cut at 10, behind Canberra and Hunter Valley wine region Pokolbin.

Cairns and Port Douglas were ranked third and fourth respectively in Queensland.
