Nathan Johnson, Damon McCourt could face Supreme Court over alleged Coconut Grove shooting

Two men who were allegedly involved in a Coconut Grove shooting which left a man with gunshot wounds to the legs could be facing the Supreme Court.

Two men who were allegedly involved in a Coconut Grove shooting which left a man with gunshot wounds to the legs could be facing the Supreme Court.

On Wednesday, the matters of Nathan Johnson, 22, and Damon Matthew McCourt, 19, were both mentioned at Darwin Local Court.

On February 3, 2025, a 23-year old man was taken to Royal Darwin Hospital after both of his legs were shot during an incident on Litchfield Ct, Coconut Grove.

Police alleged the shooting was targeted and the alleged offenders were known to the victim.

Seven hours after the shooting, NT Police arrested both Mr McCourt and Mr Johnson who were travelling south to Katherine in a black Mazda.

Police alleged “multiple edged weapons” were found within the vehicle they were travelling in.

Both men were charged with recklessly endangering life, intending serious harm, causing harm, and theft.

A third alleged offender, Matthyis Leedie, 19, was arrested two days later at a Karama residence and charged with recklessly endangering life, aggravated robbery, unlawfully causing serious harm and going armed in public.

On Wednesday, Judge Tanya Fong Lim adjourned Mr Johnson’s matter to April 30 for a preliminary examination.

Judge Fong Lim also adjourned Mr McCourt’s matter to June 11 for a preliminary examination.

Both men remain on remand.
