Herbert MP Phillip Thompson has announced his separation from his wife of nearly a decade, Jenna, in an emotional social media post.

“With respect and love, Jenna and I have made the difficult decision to live apart and to separate,” Mr Thompson posted to his Facebook page on Thursday evening.

Mr Thompson, who has two young daughters – Astin and Emery – with Jenna, said the couple had been navigating the decision privately for some time.

“To give our family time to adjust, we have been dealing with this privately before sharing it publicly.

“We remain united in our efforts to raise our two beautiful girls in a loving and stable environment.”

He also took a swipe at unnamed people who had been approaching local and national media about the story.

“To those who have been shopping this around to local and national media- I hope you can now move forward and spend your time on something more productive,” Mr Thompson said.

Mr Thompson who currently serves in the LNP opposition as the Assistant Minister for the NDIS, has previously spoken publicly about his youngest daughter Emery’s diagnosis with autism.
