Izabella Burke started singing when she was just five-years-old, belting her little heart out in front of the mirror while brushing her hair.

The 17-year-old from Merrimac is now a singer and a songwriter and will be competing in the Gold Coast Eisteddfod for the second time later this month.

The Year 12 student said she had always loved to write poems and stories, which led her to songwriting.

“It’s just a fun way to let out all the things you’ve bottled up,” she said.

Izabella said she would take any opportunity to get on stage and perform.

“It’s such an adrenaline rush and I become a completely different person,” she said.

“I am a naturally shy person but performing just feels like I am meant to be there.

“Performing for crowds is a confidence boost, especially when other people enjoy your music too.”

Izabella will perform the national anthem at this weekend’s Gold Coast Marathon and has previously received the Gold Coast Performing Arts Foundation Fellowship.

She hoped singing would take her around the globe so she could “share the joys of music”.

“My goal is to perform original music at world tours and stadiums as well as write music that people feel connected to,” she said.

“As well as to inspire others to chase their dreams.

“Just go for it, even if others tell you it’s silly or make fun of you.”

Izabella will be competing at the Gold Coast Eisteddfod which is being held from July 21.

The event will see dancers, singers and musicians test their talents in various categories.

Audience tickets are now on sale.
