A Gold Coast creative agency has lived to fight another day, with the tax office discontinuing a winding-up application against the company.
The Australian Taxation Office commenced proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia on April 30, seeking a court order to wind up Media8 Pty Ltd, trading as Media8.
The ATO typically seeks such orders when the respondent company owes a large tax liability.
On July 2, the proceeding was discontinued with the consent of the parties.
Judicial Registrar Robyn Curnow ordered Media8 pay the ATO’s costs of bringing the proceeding, $3170.
Media8 is headquartered at Burleigh Heads and operated by company director Brett John Presley McCallum, 52. His wife Simone McCallum owns the company via her corporate entity Kennedy Grace Australia Pty Ltd.
Mr McCallum was contacted for comment.
When this masthead previously contacted Mr McCallum about the application, he said it was being dealt with through the “proper legal channels,” and confirmed the company remained a going concern.
According to its website, Media8 is a “consortium of brands” that offers digital marketing and creative design services, sports and events management, and podcasting and audio services, inter alia.
Also falling under the Media8 umbrella is Official Beer Co, which is brewed locally and was formerly served at Mr McCallum’s short-lived watering hole The Yard Brewhouse at Mermaid Beach, which he launched in 2023 in conjunction with Surfers Paradise Brewing’s John Green.
