Matt Wade’s his way back into Australian T20 team

Hurricanes star Matthew Wade has bludgeoned his way back into the Australian T20 squad.

MATTHEW Wade’s incredible resurrection as an international cricketer is complete after the Hurricanes skipper was selected for Australia’s T20 and one-day international squads.

This time 12 months ago, Wade was not in any national team but is now part of the Australian Test line-up and belted his way into the 20-over and 50-over teams for the tour of South Africa later this month through a truckload of runs.

National selector Trevor Hohns said Wade brings a lot of flexibility to the squad.

“Matthew Wade is also in red hot form with the bat,” Hohns said.
“He is a very strong fielder; and a great person to have in any team. He can also substitute as wicketkeeper if required,” Hohns said.

The powerfully built left-hander has played 26 T20 games for Australia but none since September 2016 in Sri Lanka.

He has also played 94 50-over games for Australia, but again none since 2017.

However, his second successive season dominating the Big Bash League has seen Wade force his way back into the national team for the upcoming tour of South Africa.

Limited to nine games due to Test duties, Wade still blasted 351 runs at an average of 50.1 at an impressive strike rate of 171.2, highlighted by a Hurricanes record 130 not out off just 61 balls against the Strikers in Adelaide to propel Hobart into the finals.
