Townsville’s CircUp Arts have been named as one of the 50 winners of a competition which will see the Matildas soccer team support them in an advertising campaign.
The Commonwealth Bank Matilda’s On Loan competition called for entries for small businesses around the country to let the Matildas help promote them in a tailored advertising campaign.
Founded in 2023, CircUp Arts is supported by service provider Unique Partnerships and teaches people from all works of life the opportunity to learn circus and acrobatic skills for those aged “5 to 105”.
Artistic director Aaron Loveday said the independent school doesn’t get a lot of opportunities to advertise and said being one of the 50 winners is a “game-changer”.
“CircUP Arts was created as a platform to offer people the chance to experience a new physical activity in a fun and supportive environment,” he said.
“The sporting achievements and camaraderie of the CommBank Matildas is a great representation of the community spirit and commitment we embody.”
Each of the 50 winners will receive an advertisement for their business alongside the CommBank Matildas, which will be distributed by the Commonwealth Bank via billboards, radio, and CommBank Branches, as part of a national advertising campaign.
Each winner will get a tailored campaign to promote their business within their respective communities.
The Matildas visited Townsville back in 2022, playing a historic home game beating New Zealand 2-1 at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.
Superstar players Sam Kerr and Emily van Egmond scored to seal the win, in the first game the Matildas had ever played in the North.
The first soccer-fixture played at the stadium since it opened and drew huge crowds of fans, with more than 16,000 spectators in attendance.
CommBank’s Small Business Banking General Manager Queensland, David Coote said it was “incredible” to see the response from thousands of Aussie small businesses who entered the competition.
“We are thrilled to be able to support CircUP Arts in this way and I hope this campaign will create a powerful impact for them, and an unforgettable moment in their history,” he said.
