A pregnant Gold Coast mother-of-one has avoided being returned to custody after pleading guilty to a series of violent, grog-fuelled attacks that included bashing her neighbour and spitting on a trio of cops.

Labrador woman Margaux Charlotte Ramsey, 35, appeared in Southport District Court on Tuesday where she pleaded guilty to six charges.

She admitted to four serious assaults on police officers on May 19–20 last year, plus assault occasioning bodily harm and wilful damage on February 9 last year.

The February offences were committed at a Broadbeach unit complex.

The day prior to the offences, Ramsey, who had been warring with a woman in a neighbouring complex, placed wheelie bins around her 34-year-old victim’s parked vehicle.

The following day, Crown prosecutor Darcy Evans told the court, Ramsey again encircled her neighbour’s vehicle with bins, and the pair confronted one another on the street after a shouting argument.

The neighbour began filming Ramsey, at which point the defendant grabbed her by the hair, yanked her head down, and punched her an estimated 10 times, leaving her with swelling, cuts and scratches.

During the assault, the neighbour’s sunglasses fell off her head and were damaged, while her mobile phone was also tossed and stomped on by Ramsay.

A neighbour – not the assaulted one – told investigating officers Ramsey was the aggressor, Mr Evans told the court.

Several months later, at about 10pm on May 19, officers were tasked to Cannes Ave, Surfers Paradise, to reports of a disturbance.

There they discovered Ramsey, who told them she had been evicted from her apartment after an altercation with the occupants.

The officers went to speak with the other parties involved, but as they did so, Ramsey smashed a downstairs panel and attempted to let herself back into the building, leading to her violent arrest, during which she dug her long nails into an officer’s wrist, drawing blood.

She also spat at an officer but missed, Mr Evans told the court.

Ramsey was bailed the following morning, but by that evening, she had been arrested again, although she had escaped custody and fled into the water off Surfers Paradise Beach.

She was placed into a division van but again violently resisted, spitting twice at police officers (missing both times), before defecating and urinating in the back of the van.

Back at the Southport Watchhouse, she again launched a series of spit missiles, this time connecting with the faces of three officers.

She spent 151 days remanded in pre-sentence custody before being released on bail on October 17 last year.

The court heard Ramsey’s few entries on her criminal history all related to summary offences committed in parallel to the indictable matters subject to the current proceedings.

Defence counsel Damien Gates told the court his client emigrated to Australia from her native United States in 2019.

She previously studied journalism but was currently unable to work due to morning sickness experienced during her ongoing pregnancy.

He said all of her woes could be attributed to drinking to excess, but she had been sober since her release last October and was turning her life around.

Judge Katarina Prskalo KC sentenced Ramsey to 15 months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for an operational period of 15 months, taking into account time already served.
