Police have charged three men following a spate of motor vehicle burglaries in the Midway Point area last weekend.

The men, aged 24, 23 and 25 were charged with multiple offences, including burglary, stealing and motor vehicle stealing.

Two of the three men were bailed to appear at the Hobart Magistrates Court on 28 November 2022 with the third man was detained for court. He was subsequently remanded in custody until December 2022.

Detective Constable Fenton confirmed that the majority of vehicles were left unlocked.
“We appreciate that the community should be able to leave their cars unlocked on their premises but unfortunately the reality is they can’t and we need their assistance in making it harder for criminals to commit crime,” he said.

“The importance of vehicle security is a message we have been conveying to the public for years, but this trend continues where vehicles are left insecure and property such as loose change, mobile phones, GPS devices, iPods, wallets and laptops are left inside.’

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity over the weekend or may have any information is urged to contact 131 444 or report to Crime Stoppers at www.crimestoppers.com.au.

The Tasmania Fire Service said it responded to an automatic fire alarm at Dodges Ferry Primary School about 2.20pm on Thursday.

“Brigades and police attended and found members of the public in the area had extinguished a small fire external to the building which resulted in a small amount of charring,” a TFS spokesperson said.

Police have confirmed an investigation has begun into the fire.

“Damage was isolated to an external area of the kindergarten building,” a police spokesperson said.

“The matter is subject to a current police investigation.
