February 20: A police road blitz yesterday targeting speeding drivers in the Greater Darwin Region has seen two females and four males arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.
The females, aged 40 and 41 years-old, and the males aged 33, 37, 39, and 52 years-old, have had their drivers licences immediately suspended. Some of the offenders were issued with infringement notices and some have been summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
Darwin Traffic Operations are also investigating a hooning incident that occurred on Saturday night. Police allege two vehicles took off at speed from traffic lights and were later observed on CCTV footage fishtailing along the road.
One of the vehicles contained a 3-year-old child at the time of the incident.
A 33-year-old male involved in this incident, will have his vehicle seized and will be summonsed to appear in the Darwin Local Court at a later date.
Police have hit out at “blatant disregard for public safety.”
Superintendent Paul Wood said it was utterly disgraceful that the individuals had endangered the lives of fellow Territorians.
“Not only were these motorists speeding, they also tested positive for drugs. This is a blatant disregard for public safety,” he said.
February 20: Emergency services are urging motorists to “drive with caution” following a structural fire behind a Howard Springs service station early Thursday.
About 2am emergency services responded to the fire behind a Caltex service station on Whitewood Rd, between Westall and Stow roads in Howard Springs.
It is understood the fire occurred in an unoccupied demountable home, where extensive damage was caused to the property and vehicles.
No injuries were sustained, NT Police said.
While the cause of the fire is still unknown, fire investigators were carrying out inquires at the scene on Thursday morning.
Police established the incident as a crime scene earlier in the morning.
In a Facebook post, police urged motorists to avoid the area and use Hillier and Girraween roads as an alternative.
“Please obey all emergency services directions and drive with caution in the area,” the post stated.
Three taken to hospital after two car crash, vehicle catches on fire
February 20, 12am: Three motorists have been taken to hospital after a two car collision in Palmerston left a vehicle to catch alight.
About midnight Wednesday, emergency services responded to a collision between two cars on Tilston Ave, Driver, where one car is alleged to have caught on fire.
One person is believed to have suffered serious fractures to their body and was taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital.
Another two people have been taken to RDH with minor fractures.
According to a spokesman for St John NT, it is alleged two people from one of the vehicles involved in the crash fled the scene.
Police, Fire and Emergency Services have been sought for comment.
Two taken to hospital after car is driven into a pole
February 19, 4pm: Two people have been taken to hospital after allegedly driving into a pole in Noonamah.
At 4pm on Wednesday, St John NT responded to an incident on Elizabeth Valley Rd, Noonamah, where a car is alleged to have driven into a pole.
Two people were taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital in a stable condition as a result of the crash.
Five women, girl, victims of ‘traumatic’ indecent assault, police allege
February 19, 8.30am: A 17-year-old boy has allegedly committed a spate of indecent assaults against five women and a girl on a Katherine walking path.
The Northern Territory Police Force has arrested and charged the teen in relation to the alleged incidents on the morning of February 14.
He was located and arrested on February 18, and has been charged with five counts of gross indecency without consent, and one count of gross indecency with a child under 16 years.
He was remanded to appear in Katherine Local Court on Wednesday.
“This was a traumatising incident for those involved and Katherine police would like to thank the victims for coming forward and providing information that was vital in securing this arrest,” Senior Sergeant Warren Scott said.
Police are urging anyone with further information to contact police on 131 444 and quote reference number P25043675.
Seriously injured man taken to hospital after falling down flight of stairs
February 16, 11.30pm: A man who fell down a flight of stairs, knocking himself unconscious, has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.
About 11.30pm on Sunday, a man fell down a flight of stairs – believed to be about 20 steps – in his Moulden residence.
The man suffered a number of head injuries and was unconscious when paramedics arrived.
St John NT paramedics transported to the man to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition.
The man’s age and the cause of the fall are unknown at this stage.
Paramedics assaulted on public bus while treating patient
February 16, 9am: Two paramedics were assaulted on a public bus on Sunday after the patient they were treating allegedly spat on them.
St John NT paramedics about 9am on February 16 responded to an incident on a public bus in Rapid Creek, where a 47-year-old man had suffered a medical episode.
While the two paramedics were assisting the man, he allegedly spat on them and fled the scene.
A spokesman for NT Police said the man has been charged with multiple counts of assault on a worker.
“St John Ambulance paramedics attended a medical incident on a public bus before allegedly being spat on by the male they were treating. “
“The male fled the scene before police arrival but was apprehended nearby and conveyed to the Palmerston Watch House.
“The male also spat on a police officer while in custody … he was later charged with multiple counts of Assault Worker.”
Man in serious condition after car reverses on him in Darwin CBD
February 15, 11.50pm: A man run over by a car near the Darwin CBD has been taken to hospital in a serious condition.
About midnight Saturday, a man was taken to hospital by St John NT paramedics after the car allegedly reversed onto him on Doctors Gully Rd, Darwin, leaving him stuck under the vehicle for a period of time.
Paramedics transported the man to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition after removing him from underneath the vehicle.
Pedestrian struck by slow-moving vehicle in Darwin, minor injuries
February 15, 6pm: A man has suffered only minor injuries after colliding with a car moving at slow speed on the Stuart Highway.
St John NT paramedics on Saturday responded to an incident at Stuart Park, on the Stuart Highway, where a slow-moving car and a pedestrian collided.
The man suffered minor injuries and was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital.
Two taken to hospital after Humpty Doo quad bike crash, serious condition
February 15, 11.50am: Two women have been taken to hospital in a serious condition after a quad bike accident left both with multiple injuries.
On Saturday, St John NT paramedics responded to an incident on Trippe Rd, Humpty Doo, where two women on a quad bike crashed.
The two women sustained multiple injuries and were both transported to Royal Darwin Hospital in a serious condition.
The age and cause of the accident are unknown at this stage.
