Tasmanians are invited to raid David Walsh’s private cellar as part of a new “ridiculously fancy wine tasting experience” launching at the Mona museum.
From September 25, those who flash a Tasmanian ID will have access to the new “Locals-only VIP-ish day of art and overly expensive wine that we need to get rid of” package.
Hospitality operations manager Pip Anderson said Mr Walsh’s booze bunker had been left languishing due to border lockdowns, which is why they were inviting locals to come and do their bit to drink him dry.
“I’m not one to let a good wine go to waste, so we’re cracking some of the seriously good stuff for our Tassie mates,” Ms Anderson said.
“Come on down and help us put a dent in David’s collection — you’d be doing us a favour. David certainly can’t drink it all by himself, though I know he’s tried.’
The $83 package includes a ferry trip to Mona, bottomless bubbles in the Mona Roma, and an exclusive tour of James Turrell’s Event Horizon, which is normally reserved for Faro diners.
Come afternoon, visitors will be treated to a lavish hour-long wine tasting session, capped off with drinks and musical performances at the Void Bar.
Once guests are sufficiently wined and dined, they will be whisked back to reality by a return ferry.
The first session will be on September 25 and will repeat every Saturday until October 23.
Each session will be capped at 44 people, and bookings can be made on Mona’s website: buy.mona.net.au/localsonly
