Tasmania Police say a pet goat has had DNA swabs taken after a man allegedly took it from a property, with reports the animal was sexually abused.

The goat was allegedly stolen from a Branxholm property in the early hours of June 10.

It was reportedly led to a public bathroom block and abused.

“There were concerns for the welfare of the goat and a vet examination was undertaken as part of the investigation process,” Sergeant Brent O’Mahony of Scottsdale Police said.

“This process included taking DNA swabs to help determine what may have occurred during this incident.”

“Police have spoken with the goat’s owner, who has made a formal complaint to police.

“No charges have been laid at this stage, however the investigation is ongoing.

“Police would like to speak to a man seen in the area between approximately 2-4am.

Police say the man is described as a tall male, wearing a beanie and a dark tracksuit.

“The male is unidentified at this stage, inquiries are still continuing to identify the person responsible for this heinous act,” Sgt O’Mahony said.

Anyone with information should contact police on 131 444 or report it anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
