A Launceston man has been inundated with job offers after standing on the side of the road with a sign that said he was looking for work.

Michael Cann said his children aged 5,6 and 15 were his primary motivation.

“I decided to get out and change my life around for me and my family, and my kids,” he said.

He said he worked about four months in the last two years, due to difficulties with flexibility from employers as he needed Friday off to be with his children.

He stood on the road side on Wednesday in Invermay with a sign reading “work wanted, do anything.”

“Last Friday was my son’s 15th birthday and I couldn’t even afford a card after bills were paid and that was a real wake up call,” he said.

Mr Cann said he had been overwhelmed by the support from the community, with close to 100 job offers and four job interviews lined up for Friday.

“I’m ready to go and have the interviews and spring back, bounce back and be the best I can be,” he said.

“I want to be proper dad and want to be a proper provider to my family, it’s my chance and I’m going to grab it with both hands.”
