Plans have been lodged with the City of Launceston to develop an indoor golf driving range that would include six play areas and a licensed bar with dining.
X-Golf, which boasts franchises in four continents and 25 ranges operating or in development across Australia, would open its 26th range at 90 Gleadow St, Invermay.
The site is currently tenanted by Middi’s Data and Electrical.
A planning report by Woolcott Surveys submitted in support of the application said that the venue “provides for both casual and organised competitions that is contained wholly in an indoor space, using a simulated golfing experience”.
“Each simulator consists of an open cubicle that is 5x5m (play space) with a screen and camera set-up that allows a simulated gaming experience,” the report continued.
“The business will cater to both informal and formalised competitions and will include food and beverage service. Additional seating areas are included in the floor plan for dining and spectating away from play areas.”
The business would be open seven days a week. It would open 10am–10pm Monday to Thursday, 10am–11pm Friday and Saturday, and 10am–5pm Sunday, the report said.
X-Golf bills itself on its website as being “where golfing and entertainment come together to provide an experience like no other”.
“Our venues are packed with exciting features, including virtual reality gaming, social events, memberships, competitions, and delicious food and beverages,” the website says.
“And of course, there’s the golfing experience itself, which is made possible by our cutting-edge technology.
“With impact sensors, infra-red lasers, camera systems, and advanced gaming software, our indoor golf simulators provide unparalleled accuracy and realism.”
When constructed, X-Golf would be Launceston’s second indoor golf venue, following on from PGA pro Will White’s WillFit Golf, located at 81 Gleadow St, Invermay – just a few doors up the street.
