Launceston court: Man charged with murdering Tasmanian police officer Keith Smith faces court

The man charged with the murder of Tasmanian police officer Constable Keith Smith has not yet entered a plea as his case came before the courts.

Leigh Sushames, 46, appeared at Launceston Magistrates Court on Monday via video link with charges of murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault due to enter his plea.

Constable Smith, 57 was killed attending a North Motton property in the state’s north west on June 16.

He was shot and killed at a rural property as he and a fellow officer attended the premises to serve a court-ordered warrant to repossess the home.

Mr Sushames was later charged with his murder on June 19.

The North Motton man remains in custody and will appear again in court on August 11.
