WHAT is supposed to be a friendly charity match to raise funds for bushfire victims could turn out to an all out war when Kingborough’s top cricket and football sides go head to head.
On Friday night at Blackmans Bay’s Sherburd Park, the Kingborough District Cricket Club will take on the TSL Tigers football club in a Twenty20 cricket match.
The brainchild of the Knights’ Jake Vincent and the Tigers’ Luke Graham, proceeds from the match will go to bushfire victims.
But Knights board member Lincoln Street said once the teams take to the park, it would be no friendly match.
“We think it will be extremely competitive,” he said.
“The football club have made it very clear they are playing to win.
“There are sheep stations involved in terms of reputations so they are very keen to get on the park but we are pretty quietly confident that we will tie them up fairly well.”
No first grade players will be selected for the Knights team, while the Tigers team will include former AFL player Marcus Davies — who also represented Tasmania in cricket at under-19s level.
“They’ve got a bit of pedigree but we think being genuine cricketers we’ll have them covered pretty easily,” Street said.
The game will start at 5.15pm, with the bar open at the Blackmans Bay Cricket Club.
