Standing on the deck of Riviera’s 4300 sports express, even while docked at Sanctuary Cove marina on a gloomy Monday morning, it miraculously becomes fathomable that someone – with very deep pockets – might spend $1.6m to own that feeling.

The 4300 sports express was one of 12 Riviera had on display, and one of the less ostentatious of the lot.

“Behind me is more than 50 million Australian dollars of Riviera luxury,” Riviera communications director, Stephen Milne said, standing in front of all 12 yachts.

“(The 4300 sports express) is very different for Riviera and very unique in the market in that it has this great sports deck.

“It has a sea deck which then connects with the water, and I think that’s probably its greatest attribute, is that you can have this indoor outdoor living access to the water, plus this incredible four-deck lounge, and sun lounge area, and it’s a boat for all seasons.”

I was made to take my boots off before I stepped onto the boat, and my socks were promptly knocked off by the attention to detail.

In every one of the abundant lounging areas there were cup holders galore, there was a stereo system and radio out on the sun lounge, I didn’t have to duck as I descended the stairs to the sleeping area, there were three separate food preparation areas, and engine controls looked almost science fiction.

There would be roughly 750 vessels in and out of the water all on display for the duration of the Sanctuary Cove boat show, head of events for Mulpha events, Corey Rattray-Wood said.

“We’re inching up towards 400 boats on water this year, which is really exciting, that’s gonna be a record breaker for us,” he said.

The boat show is in its 36th year, and is the biggest boat show in the Southern Hemisphere.

“It’s got a really rich history now on the Gold Coast, and it just gets bigger and bigger and stronger and stronger every year.”

The show started as part of The Ultimate Event, which was Sanctuary Cove’s launch party in 1988, and attracted musical acts Frank Sinatra and Whitney Houston.

Now, Sanctuary Cove is known internationally for the boat show, and thousands of prospective buyers are expected to come each day it is on.

“I know that the ROI for exhibitors is really strong and really powerful, but its aspirational as well,” Corey Rattray-Wood said.

“Some people are not quite there yet, but they just want to come check out the latest products.”
