HOBART has the Taste of Tasmania and Launceston has Festivale.
Now the Central Coast Council is hunting for ideas to establish a new annual event in its municipality to celebrate what it has to offer and put itself on the revellers’ map.
The Central Coast encompasses the popular towns of Ulverstone, Penguin and Turners Beach and Mayor Jan Bonde said the council was keen to support a “significant annual festival”.
The community has been asked to submit ideas on what the new festival’s focus should be, where it should be held and when.
What the council might contribute financially towards a new big drawcard event is not yet known.

The festival proposal is part of a review of the council’s strategic plan which is a blueprint for the region’s development over the next decade.
Other proposals in that review are the refurbishment of the popular but tired 45-year-old Merv Wright Fountain in Ulverstone’s Anzac Park.
The council will also investigate the feasibility of further developing the Leven Canyon floor walk as a major adventure tourism experience.
It is also reviewing what areas are most suitable for motorhomes and campervans in Ulverstone, Penguin and Forth as a Statewide review of the free camping sector is underway.
The council is also talking about affordable housing options and better road connections to Cradle Mountain.
