IN PICTURES: Rain fails to put damper on sold-out Red Hot Summer Tour
Rain-soaked festival-goers refused to let wet weather dampen their spirits as Crowded House delivered their long-awaited performance at Broadwater Parklands.
Wet weather couldn’t dampen the spirits of thousands of poncho-clad music lovers who transformed Broadwater Parklands into a waterlogged rock paradise on Sunday for the sold-out Red Hot Summer Tour.
Despite persistent drizzle, festival-goers were treated to legendary headliners Crowded House – finally secured after promoter Duane McDonald chased the iconic Kiwi-Aussie band for 15 years.
“We’re rapt that we’ve finally got there,” Mr McDonald said in June.
The all-star line-up also featured sibling duo Angus & Julia Stone, ARIA Hall of Fame inductees The Church, The Waifs and Mark Seymour with Vika & Linda
Coomera locals and fifth-time festival veterans Tenielle Grunert and Sara Cox, a nurse and midwife said the show gets better every year.
“I just love the music – it’s our genre,” Ms Grunert said.
Jennifer Watherson from Pimpama and Jeff Neden from Brisbane – who forged a friendship at Cold Chisel’s 50th Anniversary Tour in Broadbeach last year – bonded over their shared passion for classic Australian rock.
“It’s one for us oldies,” Ms Watherston joked.
“We’re having a blast. It’s handy to have someone with similar music taste you can go to a concert with.”
Meanwhile, Kirra resident Anni Sutherland arrived dressed in vibrant colours to combat the grey skies.
“It’s a dull day so I wanted to wear something colourful,” the devoted Crowded House and The Church fan said.
The two-hour show covered classic hits including Don’t Dream It’s Over, Better Be Home Soon and Weather With You.
