Santa’s little helpers have wings this Christmas at Australia’s first-ever Santa butterfly house.

Three-year-old Kayan Neves was among the first visitors to experience Christmas wishes (and butterfly kisses) at the “one-of-a-kind experience” at Australia Fair Shopping Centre.

Surrounded by 400 butterflies of around 20 different species, the youngster cuddled up to Santa in awe of the colourful creatures.

He rattled off his wish list: a “Monster Jam Sparkle Smash Monster Truck” and “anything Batman” as butterflies tickled his hands.

Triangle House founder Caragh Bradbery, who created the concept, said combining Santa with butterflies created a “fresh, memorable twist on traditional Santa visits”.

“This is an unparalleled experience because butterflies are so significant to so many people,” she said.

“The kids love it.

“From the educational perspective of being able to see something you don’t get to see in everyday life up close, all the way through to people associating loved ones with butterflies.”

The wheelchair and pram-friendly space showcases the butterfly life cycle, letting children “learn while immersed in Christmas magic”.

“It’s just an incredible thing – the magic of Santa mixed with the magic of butterflies,” Ms Bradbery said.

Santa’s Butterfly House is on the ground floor, Centre Court at Australia Fair and opens daily until Sunday.
