TRAFFIC conditions at Salamanca Place have changed as part of a road refurbishment of the area to improve linkages with the waterfront, pedestrian access and general amenity.
The Mercury understands there have been a number of close calls as motorists try to navigate the changes, so we’ve broken them down to help you get through unscathed.
Here what’s new:
Gladstone St, which meets Salamanca Place has been changed from a one-way to a two-way street.
As a result, there are new ‘stop’ and ‘no right turn’ signs at the new-look intersection.
The changes are part of the $3.5 million Salamanca Place Precinct Upgrade, which began in April and will be delivered in stages over the next three years.
Other changes scheduled to take place as part of the plan include:
REBUILDING the intersection at Salamanca Place and Montpelier Retreat and the footpath on Salamanca Place between Montpelier Retreat and Kennedy Lane to make the area safer for pedestrians;
ENHANCING connection between Salamanca Place and the waterfront by installing new zebra crossings to give pedestrians priority;
ADDING more seating and bicycle parking; and
INCREASING safety in the area through improved lighting and CCTV capability
