The Hobart Hurricanes’ first “home” game of the BBL season — on December 20 — will be in Alice Springs, it has been confirmed.
The full BBL fixture list confirms Hobart will host four home games and Launceston two — with a Christmas Eve day game set again for Blundstone Arena.
The entire home and away season fixture has been condensed to fit inside the Tasmanian school holidays, with the BBL Finals Series be staged across two weekends.
Hobart will host four matches with night games on Friday January 3, Monday January 13 and Friday January 24.
“Our commitment is to be the team for all of Tasmania and with six matches across the state within the summer school holidays, we’re sure to see families out in force supporting the Hurricanes,” Cricket Tasmania Chief Executive Nick Cummins said.
“The decision to play in the Northern Territory will provide us with a great opportunity to showcase Big Bash in the region and forms part of a greater alliance between Cricket Tasmania and NT Cricket.”
The Tasmanian cricketing community will see the benefits of this initiative via increased investment in community cricket, umpiring, our men and women’s elite programs as well as Cricket Tasmania and Hobart Hurricanes member facilities.
“We will also use this opportunity to celebrate Tasmania’s indigenous culture and heritage, with more details to be announced shortly,” Mr Cummins said.
“We were pleased with how the Christmas Eve fixture was received by fans last season.
“We’re looking forward to building the game into a Hobart tradition for years to come.”
Affinity with #TasmaniasTeam in the North and North-West will also continue to grow, with two fixtures locked in at the University of Tasmania Stadium on Monday December 30 vs. the Melbourne Stars and Sunday January 19 vs. the Adelaide Strikers.
