Street sign rammed into 4x4 stuns Palm Beach locals

Morning walkers and cafe goers were in for a shock on Tuesday morning after a street sign was rammed into the windscreen of a 4x4 in Palm Beach.

Morning walkers and cafe goers were in for a shock on Tuesday morning after a street sign was rammed into the windscreen of a 4x4 in Palm Beach.

The bizarre incident happened at the Palm Beach Parklands carpark near Dune Cafe, with the give way sign embedded into the ute.

Gold Coast charity president and community activist Ian Grace spotted the eye sore on Tuesday morning – describing it as “unbelievable parking rage”.

“I cannot believe it – someone has literally pulled a give way sign out of the ground and rammed it into the windscreen,” Mr Grace said.

“It’s literally rammed in, with the windscreen broken, and is partially in the car.”

Mr Grace said it was unclear where the sign was pulled from, but the sheer effort to commit the act was clear.

“The effort to pull one of those signs out of the ground in the first place – the earth is still connected to it,” he said.

The incident comes as a wave of development sweeps the area with limited parking spaces causing an uproar among locals.

“With the construction happening here next to Dune Cafe there’s tradies parked everywhere,” Mr Grace said.

“That’s another reason we can never get parking anymore, because there’s tradie utes everywhere – maybe someone’s just lost their rag, but I’m just surmising.”

Founder and president of local charity Youth Music Venture, Mr Grace said parking in Palm Beach had become “dreadful”, citing it as “the absolute worst”.

“Parking is a real issue,” he said.

“I got a $200 fine myself recently because you couldn’t park in that car park or the one further south,” he said.

“So I went out and parked on the highway – there was a whole line of cars parked off the white line, I parked there and I got a $200 fine.”

The Gold Coast Australian of the Year Local Hero finalist and 2022 Gold Coast Volunteer of the Year said council had since erected a no parking sign after he tried to contest the fine.

“It is so frustrating there’s car circling here all the time,” he said.

“There’s rows and rows of tradies cars and utes taking so much of the parking here – I’m not having a go at the tradies. It is dreadful there’s, no doubt about it.”

The company which owns the ute was contacted.

They confirmed they were aware of the incident and the vehicle would be towed.
