A 28-year-old man has been charged with murder after a man was found dead in a car with alleged head injuries.
The 44-year-old was found in a vehicle outside a property on Beale Street in Southport on the Gold Coast.
Police allege a 28-year-old man from Stafford Heights assaulted the older man around 9.30pm on Saturday.
The 44-year-old man was initially transported to the Gold Coast University Hospital but he was declared dead.
Police were notified of the man’s death, with officers launching an investigation.
Witnesses said they saw a man handcuffed and driven away from the scene by police on Sunday morning.
Late on Sunday afternoon the 28-year-old was charged with murder. He will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on Monday.
A neighbour, Sophie, who has lived on the Southport street for 18 months, said it was a quiet area where there had not been any trouble.
“I just woke up and saw the police tape and just knew something was wrong. It’s scary,” she said.
“I didn’t hear or see anything, I just woke up … and thought Oh my god this is real.
“It looks like something you’d see on the news.
“I’m just worried.
“It is quiet, it’s a great place, social and busy.”
Investigations into the circumstances of the man’s death are ongoing.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have relevant information that may assist investigations to come forward.
